YOUR FOOD IS YOUR BEST MEDICATION

What goes on in your kitchen is an indication of your family health. Your kitchen can either be a mortuary or a hospital. Foods have natural powers to heal and prevent the initiation and proliferation of diseases in the human body. In addition to the self-healing property of the human body, the quality of food consumption reflects how the body ward off diseases and recover when hit by diseases. Studies in nutritional health has indicated several enemies of nutritious diet which include peeling, washing, high-heat, oxidation, frying and the addition of chemicals in the guise of preservative and seasoning. All the aforementioned make our foods powerless as all their therapeutic properties are lost and what we consume is chaff. Food consumption in recent generations has been largely influenced by taste stimulation. We only love to feed on what tickles our taste-bud with little regard to how beneficial it is to our bodies. How does these enemies of nutrition affect our hea...

FAITH, HEALTH & HEALING DEVOTIONAL – DAY 30

Eat The Rainbow “   I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.." – Genesis 9:13 Eating the rainbow is a great way of eating raw food. The rainbow has seven colors and the whole idea is to ensure all the seven colors of the rainbow are present on your plate. One way of knowing what a particular fruit or food can do for your body is the color code. For example, color red in any fruit or vegetable signifies the presence of lycopene. They come with some good anti-oxidizing properties as our health requires anti-oxidants a great deal. Fruits and veggies with red color include tomatoes, watermelon, guava, etc. Watermelon has about four colors when you count from the back to the seeds but oftentimes, people only eat the red (sweetened part). You can have all of the watermelon by cleaning the watermelon thoroughly under a running tap before cutting into pieces that your blender can accommodate. Put the di...

FAITH, HEALTH & HEALING DEVOTIONAL – DAY 29

Why RAW Food? “   The angel of the LORD came back a second time and touched him and said, "Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you." – I kings 19:7 The human body does not understand food in the way we view food. For the human body, nutrients are like fuel required for powering the body in order for it to carry out basic functions. Such functions include but not restricted to i) Repair of damaged cells or tissues ii) Prevention of diseases and infections iii) Growth and general body development. The body places demand asking for materials known as nutrients for it to carry out the above functions and this demand is interpreted as hunger. In most cases, the demand are inadequately supplied in quantity or quality and sometimes completely ignored as we try to satisfy the hunger quest. A typical demand interpreted as hunger could be a demand for carbohydrates as energy are required for some body building activities but when the hunger demand i...

Supplements Not Substitutes “   Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.” – Philippians 3:2 The human body is complex and highly sophisticated depicting the wisdom of the Creator. The various cells in their trillions are carrying out multiple functions simultaneously to keep the human body going. At the base of these functions are nutrients which the body requires to power all its operations. The ability of the human body to heal itself and prevent a disease condition is also predicated upon how well the body has been supplied with the required nutrients. Most of the nutritional factors are obtained from food, atmosphere and water. Unfortunately, the environment has been under serious threat of late owing to industrialization and other harmful practices to the environment. Depletion of the earth layers is not just an adverse effect on the physical earth forms but also on the produce from the earth. This affects the availability of som...

When Healing Delays “   And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.” – Luke 17:17- 18 While working in a medical lab as an intern in preparation for a post-graduate study in public health, a colleague mistakenly gave a patient a test result belonging to someone else showing the individual tested positive for HIV while the individual with HIV went home with a clean bill. They both returned after a few days for further examination. The fellow with the HIV positive result had emaciated with lean flesh and bones while the actual person with HIV was still looking robust and showed no care. This is the power of a proclamation though humans react more to negative proclamations than positive ones. Jesus had just pronounced the healing of ten lepers by asking them to go show themselves to the priests. It was a form of passage, a physical examination to certi...

FAITH, HEALTH & HEALING DEVOTIONAL – DAY 26

Practicing Moderation “   All things are lawful, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful, but not all things edify.” – 1 Corinthians 10:23 We had a healthy living class some months back where a widow who just lost her husband attended the class after coming in contact with our materials. She was still mourning the demise of her husband as she spoke during one of the sessions. She said “My husband probably would have lived had he come in contact with you six months ago”. The husband had battled a condition and was told by healthcare practitioners to continue his usual feeding pattern which unknown to them consists mainly of foods that aggravated his condition. A Chinese proverb says whoever takes medicine and neglects a change in diet wastes his doctor’s time. Perhaps the most neglected principle of health and healthy living is that of moderation. Every human has the tendency of over-doing things especially those that bring satisfaction and p...
