The Green
Life
“The Lord is my
shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me
beside quiet waters.” – Psalm 23: 1-2
Green plants get their signature color from the pigment
called chlorophyll which serves as an energy power house for nutrients. Green
fruits and vegetable are rich in vitamins, minerals, phytochemical, and fiber.
Lutein and Zeaxanthin are two nutrients that do help prevent
macular degeneration in old age. They can be obtained by consuming green food.
Cataract and glaucoma are one of the world’s leading causes of blindness.
Eating greens will prevent these and help with good vision.
Greens are great antioxidants which confers on them the
ability to fight free radicals in the body thereby preventing certain cancers
and promoting good health. They are low on sugars but packed in water and fiber
hence their ability to regulate blood sugar levels preventing Type II Diabetes.
Green fruits are also rich in magnesium which has been known
to be a bronchodilator making easy passage along the air-pathway in respiratory
functions. Celery is a green vegetable rich in potassium helping with blood
pressure.
A diet high in chlorophyll helps in detoxifying the liver
and colon as it get rids of toxins and reduces the sensitivity to inflammation.
Oftentimes, it is the green part of the fruits and vegetables
that we throw away as is the case with watermelon. Celery, green apple, pear, cucumber,
broccoli, asparagus, green peas, wheatgrass, spinach, parsley, avocado, etc. are
examples of green fruits and vegetables. Google pictures and walk to a grocery
to purchase these items. You can equally grow some at no cost in your garden.
David the author of Psalm 23 cherishes the importance of green
pastures in shepherding being a shepherd himself. He knows one of the greatest gifts
a shepherd can give his flock is a green pasture.
It applies to every area of
life. Your health requires the green
gift. Make it a major part of your diet
today.
