FAITH, HEALTH & HEALING DEVOTIONAL – DAY 16

Is your Kitchen a Pharmacy or a Mortuary?

So they poured it out for the men to eat. But as they ate of the pottage, they cried out, O man of God, there is death in the pot! And they could not eat it.” – II Kings 4:40

The kitchen is one important utility area of any house. It is so surprising how more attention is given to the living room than utility areas in several homes. Guess we are all guilty of trying to impress people by the quality of our sofas, the size and latest technology of the TV, etc. while we pay little attention to important areas like the rest rooms, bed rooms and the kitchen.

Your kitchen could either be a factory, producing nourishment for your health and the health of your family or it is a toxin producing factory, debilitating your health and the health of your loved ones.

Like the story in the scripture above, one of the sons of the prophet was doing all he could to serve the people and provide for their needs. In his innocence, his kitchen was dishing out death and poison that could have wasted an entire generation of prophets. Many women are also ignorantly destroying their health and the health of their loved ones thru their kitchen.

Your kitchen cookware is one important area to pay great attention. Several homes use aluminum pots while some go a step further to use non-stick pots which are usually coated with PTDA, a dangerous chemical with Teflon being the most popular brand. Aluminum is a dangerous metal which crosses into the brain causing neuro-degenerative disorders in later years especially in men.

If you have ever observed your aluminum pots develop holes after prolong use, don’t ask how the holes got there, they leached into your food and you consumed them. TEFLON used in non-stick pots is highly carcinogenic and causes cancer.

The alternatives to aluminum cookware are many. You can decide to use heavy stainless steel pots which you can verify by passing a magnet round every part of the pot. If there is any part that does not attract the magnet, then the pot is a mixture of steel and aluminum. Don’t buy! The weight confirms it is heavy as it should be heavier than the normal aluminum cookware.

Earthenware is a very healthy alternative. Sadly though, we have forsaken this and labeled the use as fetish in many communities. Foods cooked in earthenware do not require so much seasoning as they evolve their natural tastes enhanced with their natural sweeteners and nutrients are further preserved unlike several conventional cookware.

Titanum cookware though expensive is worth the buy for every home. Saladmaster is a popular brand for titanium cookware with global certification. They are non-corrosive and non-reactive. Titanium does not leach into your food because of their quality and they greatly preserve nutrients in food during the process of cooking among several benefits. The cookware is also very durable and could last generations. Surgical knives are made of titanium which attests to their durability.

Make a conscious effort to pay attention to your cookware. The quality of your health starts from the quality of what comes out of your kitchen.

WHY CHRISTIANS FALL SICK

I must pay tribute and give dues to great Christians who have taken time to deal with the above topic. Some of them did after encounters with sicknesses and near-death experiences but the Lord had mercy on them and allowed them to put pen on paper for generations to come so we may understand God wants us whole and healthy. I will first acknowledge the works of Dr. George Makmus, founder of the Hallelujah Acres and the Hallelujah Diet who was diagnosed of colon cancer and went on to find out from the scriptures and science why “he” a Christian should get sick. He later wrote the book “Why Christians Get Sick” (It can be obtained from leading bookshops and online from Amazon.com). Secondly, I met Rev Tony Akinyemi over a decade ago and I believe strongly that my working with him is nothing but divine arrangement. He it was that first introduced my wife and I to the concept of healthy living. Rev Tony Akinyemi at the age of 36 with a budding ministry in the heart of Lagos was d...

PROTECT YOURSELF AND LOVED ONES FROM EBOLA

As Lagos records the first case of Ebola incidence, it has become pertinent to arouse public interest and educate people on the need for prevention as treatment and cure of the disease is not too clear to medical science as at 2014. The Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) or Ebola Haemorrhagic Fever (EHF) first appeared during two 1976 outbreaks in Africa. Ebola gets its name from the Ebola River, which is near one of the villages in the Democratic Republic of Congo where the disease first appeared. Usually an outbreak starts when someone comes into contact with the body fluids or waste of infected animals, such as monkeys, chimps, or fruit bats. Once a person is infected, he or she can then spread it to others. There are five different types of Ebola virus that cause the disease. Four of them are known to cause the disease in humans. The American Centre for Disease Control states that “the prevention of Ebola HF presents many challenges. Because it is still unknown how exac...

FAITH, HEALTH & HEALING DEVOTIONAL - DAY 11

You Need Bacteria “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies….” – Psalm 23:5 David saw God preparing his table in the presence of his enemies. They have an important role to play in your lifting. Bacteria would be considered enemies of the human health but they serve several beneficial purposes to the body. There are about 100 Trillion bacteria in the human body while there are about 1 Quadrillion viruses (Bacteriophages) present in the human microbiome. The bacteria would outnumber the human cells by 10 to 1 while the viruses outnumber the bacteria by almost the same margin. Several researches have demonstrated the importance of bacteria to human health. There are several bacteria that promote infections and diseases in the human body but there are also several bacteria responsible for many critical functions in the human body. Bacteria are responsible for the breaking down of food particles in the body which when absent can lead to obesity...
