Identifying What You Eat
“ And to every beast of the earth, and to every
fowl of the air, and to everything that creeps upon the earth, wherein there is
life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.” – Genesis
1:30
God is so particular about the food we eat. The entire
scripture is loaded with several references to food and its importance. Food
indeed is an essential for human life and survival though Jesus mentioned it is
not sufficient on its own to sustain the human life as it feeds only a third of
the three components of man.
Having a general understanding of what food we ingest is
important. We can derive this knowledge through the acronym ABC.
The A stands for Architecture which identifies fruits and
vegetables with physical structures similar to specific parts of the human
body. Such fruits have been found to have health benefits for those parts of
the body they resemble. The avocado pear when cut open looks like the female
womb with a baby. The avocado pear has been described to be beneficial in
balancing hormones and weight management especially those gained in pregnancy.
It takes nine month for the avocado pear to ripen just as a full-term
pregnancy.
The carrot is also a good example as it looks like the eyes
when it is cut transversely. Carrots are rich in Beta-carotene which is good
for eye health. Oranges and the female breasts have similar structure and have
been found to possess the ability to fight cancer because of their vitamin C
content.
Letter B in the acronym stands for Bible where we find the
health benefits of certain foods as mentioned in the scriptures. Mandrake
(Genesis 30:14 -16) is an aphrodisiac. Raisins (Numbers 6:3) mentioned in
several places in the bible as dried grapes is known as a food for energy for
travellers on a long journey. Raisins have been known to confer energy and
works well than glucose D even for athletes as it confers health benefits.
Several seasonings and foods were mentioned in the bible
like garlic, ginger, lettuce, cucumber, basil, dill, dates, etc.
The third letter, C stands for Color. This is the ability to
understand the benefits of fruits and vegetables by their colors. As seen in
the opening scripture where God specifically mentioned plants with the green
color for food in Genesis 1:30, others with different colors have several
health benefits as well.
Chlorophyll is responsible for the green pigmentation in
green plants. A type of power house which enables plants in their food
production process in the presence of sunlight and carbon dioxide. Chlorophyll
has been found to help digestive function, it also help in detoxification,
hormonal balancing, blood clotting and helps in wound healing.
Red foods like tomatoes are rich in lycopene which is good
for the heart. White colored vegetables like the allium family containing
garlic, onions, fennel, etc. are strong antioxidants with ability to fight off
cancer and eliminate carcinogenic substances.
The advice is to eat the rainbow which is an attempt to have
a minimum of seven different colors on your plate. Ensure these colors are not
obtained from processed or refined foods. Artificial colorings should also be
avoided
