FAITH, HEALTH & HEALING DEVOTIONAL - DAY 10

Your Health, Your Worship!

“Six days you shall do your work, but on the seventh day you shall rest; that your ox and your donkey may have rest, and the son of your servant woman, and the alien, may be refreshed” – Exodus 23:12

Oftentimes, we read portions of the scriptures that have to do with laws with pains and boredom. Why would God command a particular day, weeks and year be set apart in a spiritual ordinance called Sabbath?

How does the refreshing of our slaves, oxen, donkeys, etc. affect our spirituality? Do we become holy and more consecrated when we observe Sabbath?

Rejuvenation is the peak process that takes place in the human body between the hours of 8:00pm and 4:00am each day. During this process, several repairs are carried out on damaged tissues and cells, those that cannot be repaired are replaced while worn out cells are changed for newly reproduced cells.

This phase also witnesses the body’s self –repair process where healing and reversal activities are peak. The body is expected to be in a state of rest to accomplish this as well as being at its peak.

We live in very active times where there are several distractions eating into our time including the period of rest.  About 50 million cells die in the human body daily while about 50 million new cells are reproduced to replace these dead cells. The peak time for this activity is during sleep.

Consider a football coach who has 11 players on the field of play. One player got injured and he did not replace that player. The match went on and another player was sent off the field of play leaving him with 9 players. This depletion in the team will eventually lead to their loss as they play against an opponent with 11 players.

This is what happens when we do not have enough sleep. An average of 6 to 8 hours sleep is recommended daily so the body can carry out repair, replacement, and reproduction of new cells where necessary.  When we do not sleep enough, partial replacement and repair takes place. Probably 30 million cells are reproduced while 50 million cells are needed. The individual goes into the new day with a deficit of 20 million cells.

When the body is allowed to rest, the body is enabled to serve us better. This is the whole essence of Sabbath. As Jesus would later come to clarify  2000 years later, that God created the concept of Sabbath for us to live healthy and better lives and not to make them holier or close to God.

As you cannot offer a sick animal with blemish or disabled as a sacrifice, so your bodies need to be whole to serve the living God. He desires our bodies as living sacrifices and no more animals.

Confession: Lord I yield my body to you as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable in good health and soundness of mind in Jesus name.

WHY CHRISTIANS FALL SICK

I must pay tribute and give dues to great Christians who have taken time to deal with the above topic. Some of them did after encounters with sicknesses and near-death experiences but the Lord had mercy on them and allowed them to put pen on paper for generations to come so we may understand God wants us whole and healthy. I will first acknowledge the works of Dr. George Makmus, founder of the Hallelujah Acres and the Hallelujah Diet who was diagnosed of colon cancer and went on to find out from the scriptures and science why “he” a Christian should get sick. He later wrote the book “Why Christians Get Sick” (It can be obtained from leading bookshops and online from Amazon.com). Secondly, I met Rev Tony Akinyemi over a decade ago and I believe strongly that my working with him is nothing but divine arrangement. He it was that first introduced my wife and I to the concept of healthy living. Rev Tony Akinyemi at the age of 36 with a budding ministry in the heart of Lagos was d...

PROTECT YOURSELF AND LOVED ONES FROM EBOLA

As Lagos records the first case of Ebola incidence, it has become pertinent to arouse public interest and educate people on the need for prevention as treatment and cure of the disease is not too clear to medical science as at 2014. The Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) or Ebola Haemorrhagic Fever (EHF) first appeared during two 1976 outbreaks in Africa. Ebola gets its name from the Ebola River, which is near one of the villages in the Democratic Republic of Congo where the disease first appeared. Usually an outbreak starts when someone comes into contact with the body fluids or waste of infected animals, such as monkeys, chimps, or fruit bats. Once a person is infected, he or she can then spread it to others. There are five different types of Ebola virus that cause the disease. Four of them are known to cause the disease in humans. The American Centre for Disease Control states that “the prevention of Ebola HF presents many challenges. Because it is still unknown how exac...

FAITH, HEALTH & HEALING DEVOTIONAL - DAY 11

You Need Bacteria “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies….” – Psalm 23:5 David saw God preparing his table in the presence of his enemies. They have an important role to play in your lifting. Bacteria would be considered enemies of the human health but they serve several beneficial purposes to the body. There are about 100 Trillion bacteria in the human body while there are about 1 Quadrillion viruses (Bacteriophages) present in the human microbiome. The bacteria would outnumber the human cells by 10 to 1 while the viruses outnumber the bacteria by almost the same margin. Several researches have demonstrated the importance of bacteria to human health. There are several bacteria that promote infections and diseases in the human body but there are also several bacteria responsible for many critical functions in the human body. Bacteria are responsible for the breaking down of food particles in the body which when absent can lead to obesity...
